Sixers with a big one tonight. The win is important but they should still be on a fact finding mission with rotations. With the trade deadline and key pieces being hurt, they’re still searching for what groups can work together, how do you want to close when behind, how do you want to close with a lead, how do you want to close in a 50/50 tight affair, etc…. I’m an 8 man playoff rotation guy. It may be that they play 9 or a matchup dependent 8 out of 10-11 options. Sixers really do have multiplicity in their depth to mix and match. The nice piece they have now is if somebody doesn’t have it in a series, there are options for Nick to go to so he isn’t forced to keep playing Tobias Harris …I mean…any Sixer that’s struggling.
At the end of the day, it’s all about what they can get with the Maxey/Embiid two man game based on what the defense gives. If the “others” around it can hit shots, both Maxey and Embiid have shown the ability to play make out of the two man game. And on the defensive end, it’s all about Embiid. He needs to be a First Team All Defense caliber Embiid who just has shown up in 4th quarters in regular season to pace himself. I’d rather trust playing BBall Paul and small ball 5 stuff for 18 minutes and 30 hard minutes from Embiid instead of trying to play him 38-40. They might even be able to sneak Batum as the small ball 5.
