With 80 Bowls (81 if you count the NCG) the NCAA will allow (5-7) teams to go if all slots cannot be filled with 6 win teams.

If Texas (4-7) can beat Baylor they will become a (5-7) team.

There are still 9 bowl slots unfilled and 17 teams looking for their 6th win today and tomorrow.

If Nebraska loses to Iowa they will be the first (5-7) team in due to being #6 in Academic Progress Rate (APR). #'s 1-5 in APR have already qualified for a bowl with 6 wins.

Nebraska is 985 (6th)
Texas at 958 is a lousy (71st)

The average APR is 960, so Texas is below average at 958. Of the 17 teams Texas is 10th in APR

Football APR Rankings 1 - 129 (AAC in Bold)

Teams that can qualify for a bowl at (5-7) and their APR.

The extra 3+ weeks of practices that going to a bowl provide are a benefit.

Letting teams go to a bowl with a losing record is just silly. So is the idea of Texas beating Baylor.

The actual rule is vague.

It technically only applies to the TOP FIVE APR guys. Those teams are already eligible.
That is not a hard rule anyway. It was only a temporary safety net when such a case was nearly impossible.
No actual rule or clarification has ever been set.
Nobody expected the need for half a dozen or more (5-7) teams to fill slots.

After that it is just guessing:

1)The clarification is likely going to be a re-set that FCS wins will not qualify towards the 5 wins.
Teams win 5 FBS wins will take precedence over teams with 4 FBS wins + 1 FCS. That makes sense as it is bad enough for a (5-7) team to get in....yet alone a (5-7) team with FCS wins.

2) Bowl affiliations will also matter.
If the ACC cannot fill all its slots, it can cherry pick an ACC team over another (5-7) team outside the top 5 APR.
The various bowls have been bid on...the conferences will want their teams in their bowls.

The real issue is that there are too many bowls.

40 should be reduced to 30.

However, I won't be shamed if Nebraska gets one at (5-7). Those extra practices are huge for the underclassmen going into 2016.

The point of the thread is how bloviating Texas Under-Achieves across the board. They don't even have the Academic Standards excuse for their abject failures on the football field.

I think we need to stop picking on Texas. I'm starting to feel guilty.
