More message board hype that "insiders" throw red meat at to sell their product. Texas fans want the best coach that we can get. It's dumb for us not to talk about the hottest names in college football and the NFL coaches out of work. Will all of them line up to be our coach? Nope, but all we need is one to say yes.

Malzah could actually be a great hote for Texas, look at what he did with the shithole barn in just a year. Imagine what he could do with a powerhouse program.

There are threads on Longhorn sites that have had that same information for quite awhile. Malzahn is the flavor of the week. It was only 6 weeks ago Muschamp and Gary Patterson were the flavor of the week. We are an ADD afflicted bunch of fans. Don't read too much into it until coaches start making public denials of interest. Then you will know our program has been contacting them and they are nervous about people finding out.

I don't know. For some reason or another, former SEC coaches fail miserably in the Big 12: Franchione, Chizik, Miles, Tubberville for example. Not sure why they succeed in the SEC, but shit the bed in the Big 12.

I never really thought about that, but it's a really good point.

There is an availability of talent in the SEC that doesn't exist for many Big 12 programs. You have to be an innovator to succeed at places like Oklahoma St, Baylor, Kansas St, and Texas Tech. I've argued for years the best coaches in college football reside in the Big 12. Inherent advantages only exist at Oklahoma and Texas now that Nebraska and Texas A&M left. You can't sell 80k in the seats and history anywhere else in the Big 12 while the SEC has 7 programs that can sell just that. Auburn is an absolutely loaded part of the country for talent being so close to Georgia and Florida and Alabama possessing good talent too. It isn't that hard to win at Auburn even with Alabama sharing the state.

Franchione was not successful in the SEC, and we thank you for taking him off our hands.

When did Cheesedick go from the SEC to the Big12? He wasn't a coach in the Big12, and he wasn't responsible for Auburn really.

Went 17-8 in his 2 years at Bama and won the West in his 2nd year, going 10-3 all while Bama was on probation. Not too shabby, plus, you Bammers were crying like hell when Aggy waltzed in and stole him. Grant it, it was for the better b/c ya'll landed Saban eventually, but Bammers were up in arms after the whole "Hold the rope" speech by Fran after Aggy took him away.

Chizik went 3-9 and 2-10 at Iowa State before he left for AU. Paul Rhodes stepped in at ISU and took the 'Clones to a bowl game his 1st year. And yes, Chizik is responsible for winning a NC at AU.

I guess Miles didn't fail miserably, as he went 26-21 as Okie jr's head coach, but he was average at best. He was 0 fer vs. Mack Brown, was never in contention for a conference title and never went to a BCS bowl. Gundy was an ass hair away from playing for a national championship and is close to winning his 2nd conference title. Miles has won a NC, played for another one and won a couple of conference titles in the SEC.......

my point is that Miles was not a "former SEC coach" that failed in the Big12.

That said Miles did some solid work at OSU. He certainly improved the program. He succeeded Bob Simmons, who won at a .44 clip. Pat Jones won at .51 clip prior to Simmons. Jimmy Johnson won 54% of his games. MIles's winning percentage was the highest since Lookbaugh in 1939-49. He went to 3 straight bowl games and their first in 5 yrs. He was a success. There is a reason he went from OSU to LSU.

So what the OP is saying is that the Texas job may have more at stake than the Iron Bowl for Bama and Auburn fans.
