agree. i think we get what we can even if it means trading Martin. those trade scenarios i posted earlier make sense if we pulled off first #2 sending Perez, Moore & Culberson to Atlanta for Kyle Muller LHP. bringing in Muller makes Hearn expendable so substituting Hearn in Moore in the 3rd trade we send Calhoun, Hearn & Hauver to Boston got Duran

agree but we need a lot of others too. at least 2 other good relievers. a couple of good starters and several positional players. i think we will have to sign a closer, a starter, the 2 relievers during free agency. the positional players are in our farm system we just need to figure out which ones starting NOW

I would bring in relievers but that's about it, I'm not signing any starters at this point

Resigning a guy a few months after you trade him is almost as rare as a high-end, Scott Boras represented player agreeing to a contract extension to facilitate a trade.

With Chapman, the Yankees traded him to the Cubs so he could have a shot at a ring (which he got with them), but I remember it being pretty widely known that he and the Yankees had mutual interest in him coming back, which he did.

Well, they might have just drafted that guy instead, taking Kumar Rocker in the first round of the draft. Whatever they do, it will be with an eye toward contention in 2023. Yes, it would require a very special circumstance because usually guys like that are traded by teams rebuilding. Also, sometimes there is a level of animosity that has built up between the team and the player. .

If Martin was on par with Chapman as far as being a difference maker goes, then I'd be more inclined to trade him with the idea of re-signing him in the offseason. But as it stands, if I'm the FO, I try to extend him now.
