I think Stubbs problems are two fold- he can't hit, first and foremost... and he was allowed to be a low contact swing away leadoff hitter that didn't walk much, all the way through the minors... Even though he didn't show any power there. Those failed tools took him to the dance, and he's still dancing with what got him there. You can't correct a problem until you admit having one... and so far, his checks keep showing up in the mailbox.

:agree:

El Tribo evidently thinks the zebra can be transformed into Secretariat. We shall see. In a league that doesn't have to use its pitcher, a 9-hole guy who makes occasional contact and is a threat to steal is a nice addition -- if the other 8 guys can hit.

It's what I said. Because being a swingaholic got him to MLB, he's gonna keep on swinging until he's unemployed.

I don't think that will be far away. Sad because he has gifts, and doesn't want to rely on them. But I guess it's easy to sit here and judge someone. There may be factors that I don't know about.

No doubt hitting a baseball is one of the toughest things in sports. I just don't believe in going down in flames without trying to get better at what's killing you.

Anyone remember Paul O'Neil ? Brett Boone ? There are probably more... and more Mike Cameron's that didn't change much... and in the era of PEDs a lot of hitting coaches probably got credit they didn't deserve.

E5 is probably juicing but nobody cares since the BJ's have essentially been irrelevant in the AL-E. All the same, E5 did have HR power with the Reds, just not the attitude to play well enough to stay on the diamond. He no longer has to worry about his "career" since Toronto seems to be happy with him.

Paul O'Neill was an interesting study in a guy who demanded of himself that he learn to hit lefties. With the Reds, he was pathetic against southies.

But watching last night and seeing 16-17 ground-ball outs, you'd think the hitting coach would have been better prepared for a pitcher they've seen already this year and several times in the past. Garcia is beatable but except for the line-drive hits, usually on the first pitch, he owned the Reds. If you can't adjust to major league pitching, you WILL get beat. The Reds do a terrible job of preparing and adjusting. This comes from a dugout philosophy. Ballplayers don't really do much thinking on their feet.

I hear he is wearing contacts. that he had trouble seeing the ball. The REDS staff did not catch it or make him available for an eye exam

Marty B. suggested it on the broadcasts at LEAST five times last year. It's a shame we have such dipsticks in the Reds health and fitness department.

Garcia has been a high pitch count guy... Doesn't go deep in games, by definition the kind of pitcher that throws a lot if balls and/ or gets fouled off a lot. How many 1st pitches did the Reds swing at against him ? Dunno if the scouting report/ hitting coach is missing, or hitters just aren't listening, but it's a form of suicide by stupidity AIDING a pitcher when the odds are always 75% in his favor to begin with.

Dunno if he's changed, but E-5 used to only be able to hit an inside fastball, Maybe he gets more of those in the AL.

E5 had 40-some homers last year. That's just NOT something a guy does without suspicion. Kinda like Andrew McCutchen hitting .330 last year in a lifetime of about .270. Makes ya go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
