I am anticipating the next basketball game played at Staples Center we will all read "Kobe Bryant's Court" written on each side of the half court line.

I think this would be a great way to honor the player that meant so much to the Lakers, to Los Angeles, and to the Staples Center.

I'm sure the Staples Center's PTB will be mulling that over in the coming weeks/months and into the offseason, while also fielding some public feedback on the topic. I can see them preparing for any possible name change, and if it's ultimately agreed upon, that change will take place just prior to the start of the 2020-21 season.

Doing this during the offseason will give everyone involved ample time to grieve, while also allowing them to heal from the shock, and for the decision makers to seize an opportunity to get it right instead of rushing it through hastily.

As good as Kobe was, there will be others to come eventually, so no because Kobe was not bigger than the NBA

I agree, let's atleast have the funerals and bury the dead out of respect for the other families that last loved ones, some of families are children that are now orphans

Not a good idea. If Kobe were the only good player that franchise ever had, then fine.

That might be a bit of a disservice to say, oh, I don't know.... West, Kareem and Magic????

Let's give this a month or two and then they can name the street the Staples Center is on or the road one has to take to get into the arena 'Kobe's Way', which would be more symbolic and also permanent.

Just like that one guy that made a petition to put Kobe on the logo...cmon man

As great as Kobe was...there were two greater Lakers to this point. Why didn't they name it after Kareem or Magic

Kobe won 5 titles in his 20 years with the Lakers. He was also basically THE guy during some of the worst times image wise of the NBA. The mid 00's was not a good time for the NBA, Kobe was the market.

I am saying this as a Blazers fans. Kobe was a villain, yet no matter your team allegiance you have to respect the guy for his work ethic, his mentality and his accomplishments.

Who else personifies the franchise since Staples opened 10/17/99? Shaq was gone by '04. Dr Buss passed in '13 (but I would be good with naming the court after him, as long it wasn't just the Buss family in general). Logo has worked for 2 other multiple other franchises since leaving.

So? It's still the arena the Lakers play in now and they are Laker legends.
Why did they make Jerry West the logo? Less reason behind that.

Terrible tragedy but there are other ways to honor Kobe, I'm sure they will do so.

Kobe was good enough nothing needs to be named after him to be remembered.

I'm just saying, IF they were to name the court today after a player, it most likely would be Kobe. Not that it needs to be.

Magic Johnson won 5 titles in 14 years and combined with Larry Bird, saved the NBA.

If the Lakers were going to name the court after anyone, there should only be 3 considered...Magic Johnson, Chick Hearn and Dr. Jerry Buss.

That would be pathetic, but not surprising given that it's LA.
