Sounds like you got a handle on it.
And remember, even though the parents usually don't agree. At this age it isn't about winning so much as learning the game and having fun.
I saw one team a few years ago where they had a kid that could boot the hell out of the ball so the coach taught him to draw the other team to him and then kick it down field to a player that had to be down there all the time.
They one a lot of games but those kids lost a lot of games when they went U10. Had absolutely no fundamental skills.
