The players are gonna be paid anyway, it's coming no big deal having an agent in my book. Maybe work out a deal with the agent to where THEY ( the agent) pay the kids way for his return I mean after all the kid took HIS advice in the first place.

Just another way to insulate people from their own bad mistakes.
Oh, he made a terrible decision, lets not hold that against him. Fuck that.
They know the rules, so live by your decision.

Life's a bitch, get use to it.

You're right, but it's not quite as easy as that. You don't really know it's terrible decision until after you don't get drafted...most of these kids hear, go, go, go.

If you have eligibility, I'm all for you being able to come back...on your own dime.

Sure they can come back, on their own dime. Too bad, so sad. Should have stayed in school.
^^^^^^^
This. Come back & pay for it yourself OR join a union and see if they can help you.

Of course you would take Hubbard back because he's a productive player on your favorite team. These players know the situation going in. Don't get me wrong, it sucks to leave early and go undrafted, but the blame is entirely on the player.

If they are dumb enough to leave early and not be one of the almost 300 players selected, they are just moronic.

They are not moronic, they just have people in their ear making them think they are better than they are and will go higher than they actually will.

I'm sure there are some that are dumb and just want the money quicker, but I think most have people feeding them bs.

I know GAIII didn't get drafted, but he was still signed by the Raiders. I'm assuming most of those players still signed somewhere.

Dumb or delusional, same thing. If you're out of high school for 3 years, you're basically an adult. They need to be smarter than following some agents' advice who has their own best interest at hand. Also it's no guarantee that just getting drafted will land a guaranteed contract. If you're a projected 5th-7th round pick and leave, you're an idiot. At that point you're guaranteed nothing.

Like I said earlier it's a shame for these guys. Probably not gonna be in the league, now have no degree and if they want to get it they have to pay for it

No.

They have contacted and spoke with an agent. In fact some of them may have taken a small loan of some type from said agent. They made their choice, a foolish one at that. That's life. Got to live with it.

I don't think its against NCAA rules to have contact with an agent. I think they have to have a "agreement" and/or recieve "special" benefits.

I could see then doing something like they do in college basketball. You have to opt out of the draft process by a certain date and not hire an agent.

Nope. You declare, you are done.

How many of them basically quit going to class once they declare? All of them.

They don't want to be a student. They can get a job.

See how the real world treats them.

They should be able to come back on their dime.

ANY other student on ANY campus in America can leave school, get a job, and then come back to finish their education. This should be no different.

They should be able to go back to school, just not play football. Plus how many of them would even be eligible to play in the fall?

Did you already take some money?
Did you already meet with professional trainers, nutritionists, coaches, etc, on someone else's dime?
Sorry, no, you cannot come back.

If you avoided all those things during your NFL try-out, sure come back.

They can go back to school, they just have to pay their way, and get the grades. For most of them I would say good luck doing that without the tutors and all of the benefits that athletes get.

No way in hell. They enter draft they made the choice to attempt a professional career.

If we allowed them back every under class men enters and then "potentially" goes Undrafted just to come back.

Bad all the way around IMO.

Nope, sorry, they chose to quit school and give up their scholarship in an attempt to make their money.

This was were I was heading. Everyone will declare for the draft. The cluster fuck would be immense. So no....once the athlete decides to go pro, they made their choice.

these, among others

I saw where more underclassmen left for the draft this year than ever before, and that it's been going up every year.

They said that this year, 40% of the underclassmen went undrafted...

They should not have listened to the people telling them they would definitely get drafted.

No, they should not be able to come back. But it should be used as a learning tool for future underclassmen. Hopefully, they can get a UDFA contract and try to make a team.

Nah because, like several other posters said, every underclassmen would declare. They'd have nothing to lose by declaring so why not declare. The rule in place now is a decent one.
