Should Joe West Be Suspended???

Jonathan Papelbon got in West's face after being ejected. Agreed that Papelbon was a little adamant, but West grabbed his jersey collar and rather threw to the side. Now, if that was a player doing that to an umpire he would be sitting for at least 5 games. I think West shouldbe suspended and fined for what he did. Shouldn't be any double standards.

Joe west is an embarrassment to the game. He walked to the dugout looking for an altercation, then when he got one, he made the aggressive physical contact with Paps. Paps is a JA. No question there, and this is nothing new. But that does not excuse West.

West has always been an umpire who thinks he is bigger than the game. Time to show him he isnt.

Knee-jerk response on my behalf. My bad. I will say, JW is a fat blow-hard. But, in this case, I think he was basically saying "Get that shit outta here". He did say JP had bumped him. IDK, anything within 3 feet of fatty would be considered a bump.

Joe Torre just announced that West will be suspended for 1 game.

Torre must have loved making that announcement but personally they probably should have used the altercation as an excuse to have let him go. He's more interested in making a name for himself then umpiring.

Joe West handled himself appropriately in ejecting Papelbon after the player's lewd gesture to the fans. I fully understand that Joe was reacting to a player who was acting aggressively, and can understand his frustration with the situation. However, Joe knows that an umpire cannot initiate physical contact with a player just as a player cannot initiate physical contact with an umpire. I spoke to Joe about the incident, and he admitted that there was a better way to handle the situation. I consider this matter closed.

But only 1 game? Reverse the roles... If Pap had grabbed West's shirt and shoved him aside, he would be gone for a week, MINIMUM.

I understand West has been around forever, and he likely has a lot of pull behind the scenes, but, my gawd, man. He is bad.

I just saw that Paps WAS suspended a week for his part. Not saying Paps is a saint, but suspending him 7 times more than West is ridiculous.

Agree 100%, but Pap got his suspension more for the crotch grab, but West getting 1 game is ridiculous.

1 game is fine, a 2nd time would be suspended for rest of season.
