Pretty sure that would be an epic nightmare and fail. You have to all of the P5 television contracts expiring at the same time for them to even talk about breaking off.

Those big colleges are the NCAA. Its the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Why leave the organization to just form another one? Just change the rules to your current one.

Wrong idea, just get rid of the NCAA. it is a farce anyway. Make it a completely free market system.

Back when people had morales, it was good.

Now, society is completely immoral and believes that cheating is the best way to do anything.

Look at ALL the colleges under the umbrella of the NCAA that cheat.

If Notre Dame can talk other schools into their way of thinking, go for it. Pretty funny that a CATHOLIC school that is in the CATHOLIC religion about being pious and helping the under-privileged decides that it is too rich to hang with the under-privileged and wants to WIN at all costs, if that means spending LOTS and LOTS of money on themselves because they are the upper echelon of CATHOLIC schools, go for it.

Or just negotiate for smaller contract windows.

I think the article is just about saying the same thing.

"Just let them play by a different set of rules -- and be up front about it and be honest," said Duncan, a former U.S. Secretary of Education. Duncan went on to say the NCAA currently is "overwhelmed," adding that the association had become "irrelevant" in the wake of the FBI basketball scandal."

The NCAA either can't enforce their own rules or refuse to do so. And since the NCAA IS the schools, they are just ignoring their own rules.

I always find threads like these hilarious to read.

People don't even know what the "NCAA" is that they are so angry about.

The NCAA that you 'think' is the problem is the enforcement arm of every school that agrees to be a part of the NCAA in any year. They simply host the Men's Basketball tournament every year, and ref some games while attending to stupid shit nobody on here even remotely cares about.

The REAL NCAA is that every single P5 conference and school that has moved the needle so far to professional sports that stipends are now given and facilities wars are waged among the supposed 'harmed' schools under the wrath of the horrid NCCA.

$100M workout facilities aren't governed by any NCAA rule. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch. That is what your school is doing to compete in the arms race that is major college football and basketball. It is all about the massive media revenue put squarely into conferences pockets and schools, along with bowl revenue, and CFP revenue and 12 game schedules with 7 home games revenue.

Billions.

Billions outside of the purview of the actual NCAA that runs primarily off the 95% of its revenue due to the Men's NCAA Basketball tournament.

The "NCAA" isn't the problem. It is the schools that make up the NCAA that are the problem. And they want everybody to still believe that their precious schools are doing everything they can
"within the rules" for their athletes and are the 'good' guys in all this. Hell, you have 100 million fans that will root for their team against this evil that is the NCAA before they blame their own team.

Wake the fuck up folks. Your own team, coach, system, and everything about your P5 school is the exact problem you are complaining about.

We should move to a P5 only league in certain sports like Men's Football and Basketball. The rest of the teams simply don't belong in the current model.

Unless you want your schools to lose money, players, and be less competitive. Up to you...

The big schools do need to break away and form a super division but it will need to be all sports which kills the NCAA basketball tournament as we know it. Money will drive this anyway so it's only a matter of time.

In football each team plays a 10 conference game schedule plus two other P5 schools.

In basketball drop the worst team in each conference, have a play in game with the 2 lowest national ranking and you have a field of 64.

I think Football is the only thing that needs to be separated.

All the revenue is football. P5 only. That is your division. Conferences stay the same, the others drop to the the FCS, or even create their own division.

Zero reason why Memphis is seriously trying to compete for a Natty while SEC is in their backdoor and never play anybody from the SEC. It is just stupid. They can't compete week in week out regardless of what any homer would say.

This isn't that fucking hard.

Right now because the NCAA sucks up most of the basketball money. The NCAA gets almost it's entire yearly budget from the basketball tournament. 1 Billion dollars that could be 14.2mm additional dollars distributed to each P5 school.

Now that you know tell me this won't happen.

Sure, either way there isn’t going to be any separating until the tv contracts are through.
Which TV contracts? If you are talking about football, none of those have anything to do with the NCAA. Basketball is more complicated, but less of an issue in terms of diversity of network contracts.
