The Phillies have won eight NL pennants and two World Series titles (1980 and 2008) and are the oldest continuously run, single-name, single-city franchise in American professional sports.....

I mean I'd take that over what the Mariners got.

I don’t think any package I have seen from him is really unreasonable. The thing with Reynolds is it goes to my gripe with the philosophy of trading, as your article points out, it has to subtract from the big league team, most likely Gilbert cause I can’t see them remotely trading Kirby after his postseason. The trading to build a team is great but the Mariners weren’t built for that. Jerry gets massive props for getting the farm system to where it was going into last year but the Mariners do not have the farm system to trade from anymore for a significant piece. Jerry and Co, built the organization to be significant spenders last offseason and this off-season. I know they like to count Castillo and Julio as big spending but if those guys are the big spending that the team was built for then those contracts are terrible.

They chose to go for more major league ready prospects when they drafted, but once those guys were close they chose to go young. I guess the other option is trading major leaguers for prospects but you can’t do that when you are winning. If they were going to rebuild this way, then they should’ve tanked for longer. They don’t have the prospects to trade anymore and the 2024 roster is the 4 SP, Munoz, Julio and Raleigh. Every other prospects who is “knocking on the door” have zero path to prove they are good enough for the 2024 roster unless it is in the bullpen or utility players.
Great post.

Trading to build the roster up at this point isn't really feasible given what we have left in the farm and really hammers home the fact that the Mariners need to start spending more money in free agency.

None of us are asking them go to full Mets spending mode, but shit at least try to be in the running for some of the decent free agent hitters. It's crazy I see all these people on Twitter shitting on the fans asking us to spend more.

Given that I didn't expect the Mariners to sign a hitter, the A.J. Pollock signing is good news. Was it ideal? No. Were there better hitters who could've been had for a couple million more? Definitely.

At least now there's a competent hitter that can play DH and LF.

I think that strike zone would be considered shrunk compared to the 95 WS. About the only good thing about losing to the Indians that year is us fans didn’t have to compare the 95 WS to Super Bowl 40

belive me....its not worth either..pitcher...or hancock..really...mariners are better off/...with pollock...right now..
.but it may come around...where...they acually...have a reasonable chance..at him...at least..one can hope..

any of those pitchers,,...or ford..puts the mariners....future at risk.....so after...a while..i started..to..lay off...cuz i realized...what they would be giving up//....
