Who woulda thunk 6 weeks ago that the Scutaro trade would be the most import trade of the season for the Giants?

And now, after admiring him from afar for years, and now having been able to kick the tires for over a month, how many think Sabes is getting ready to offer Scutaro a $6M contract for '13?

While I am not sure it will be the Sabean Special, I do think he will be back next year. 37 is awfully old to be inking a $6M deal...

If they do, though, I will trust that it was the deal that needed to be done to keep him, and I will be happy.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him going back to Colorado too, he loved it there and didn't really want to be traded. He also openly said right after the SF trade that he could see a return to Denver. That was before he settled in here.

It seems like he is enjoying SF too though, us and Colorado are probably the top of his lists.

Yep and you would think his defense will decline quicker than his bat and that should leave him a good bench player and above average PH at worst - 2/12 would be low risk IMO

Really? Scutaro's shoulder has been an issue for several years now.

Interesting. When he first came to the Giants and was playing third base, I was pleasantly surprised by his arm. As far as offers, I hope they don't go with two years. One is fine. He will be a Riot replacement (despite looking like an everyday player), but obviously deserves more money. If he can get 2 and 12 somewhere else, more power to him. For now, I wouldn't go above 1 and 5. Rings do change perceptions, however.

IIRC, Scutaro had one bad year with Boston (in 2011, his last one there), and not a string of problems and DL-stints like Freddy did through 4-5 years. And Scutaro played through the injury half of the year, and it didn't seem to be an issue this year for either the Rockies or the Giants.

You have to try to forget what you know now about Freddy, and try to imagine making this "Freddy is injury prone" argument at the beginning of 2010.

Please delineate Freddy's "string of DL-stints" pre-2010. And Scutaro has spent time on the DL with other injuries besides his shoulder - oblique comes immediately to mind, not that any of that really matters. I think you guys are relying on what we know about Freddy in 2012, and not what we knew about him in 2010.
