The Buffalo Sabres signed defenceman Alexander Sulzer to a one-year, $725,000 deal on Monday. Sulzer was due to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Last season, the 27-year-old Sulzer scored three goals and added five assists for eight points in 15 games with the Sabres after being acquired from the Vancouver Canucks, along with forward Cody Hodgson at the trade deadline. Sulzer also appeared in 12 games with the Canucks last season, collecting one assist. In 89 career NHL games, Sulzer has 16 points with the Sabres, Canucks, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators. The native of Germany native was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
