Except that isn't what happened. Saban was talking to a room full of booster during basically what amounts to a fundraiser and someone in the room recorded it and shared it with reporters. Saban never intended for this to go national he was rallying the boosters for Fundraising. You know what a Head Coach is supposed to do. Jimbo not understanding the context of how it happened and going full scorched earth to try to deflect attention off his program was literally the worst thing he could have done. Saban even tried to call the guy to mediate the situation and Jimbo being Jimbo just went nuclear and lost control of his emotions nationally. Deion Sanders of all people understood the situation and was cool and calm about it. Jimbo however just put a target on his back. Coaches speak differently to Boosters than they do to the public. This isn't news. Jimbo should know this especially after his speech to boosters was leaked last season.Saban bitched about the no huddle & now this. Seems when other programs are coming up with ways to compete against them he goes off the deep end.
Thank you for the clarity. You think the boosters believed his comment that A&M bought players and Bama hasn’t, not one player?Except that isn't what happened. If he didn't think it would go national.....he's extremely naive. Should have been aware somebody would record something like that and it would backfire.Except that isn't what happened. It has nothing to do with being Naive. He didn't even know it was being recorded. Look at the video. It was Alabama coaches talking to Boosters pretty much. Things like this never gets reported. They talk about NIL and bam someone recorded it and it got reported. That isn't the issue though. The issue is the response by Fisher. Guy knows how those functions operate. He knew Saban wasn't intentionally putting this out nationally and reacted like a spoiled child. If he didn't think it would go national.....he's extremely naive. Should have been aware somebody would record something like that and it would backfire.
Not really. If you look at the national response it is pretty much all negative for him with people disagreeing with him. Only people actually agreeing with him are sources trying to drive web traffic or the local media around the program.Jimbo's response was savage and true.
Don't really think he cares what the Boosters believe as long as they receive the message that more spending is needed for NIL. There have been some great Memes for sure. I don't think any large program is going to have problem with spending if that is the way it is going forward. People thinking this levels the playing field are in for a rude awakening. This will decrease parity completely. The teams that spend the most will be in the Playoffs every single year. It isn't going to look much different from what it is now. This type of spending just shrinks the playing field even further. It is basically a major sport without a Salary Cap and the teams with the most will win the most.Thank you for the clarity. You think the boosters believed his comment that A&M bought players and Bama hasn’t, not one player?
The NIL money is bigger than most people imagined, really not sure how the conferences, universities and NCAA can monitor it.
Other than Bama’s rivals most of us respect the best program in the country, but man this story has provided some social media hilarity. Have you seen some of the bits?
The one where Saban puts Dr Pepper in his Coke bottles is pretty funny. I did a quick search but couldn’t find it to provide a link.
