Don't know about always, but then again I don't really worry about it. If he feels there was a rules violation and it was blatantly missed(this one) then make the complaint.
I wish Jimbo would complain about the AAC refs in the USF game this year. Did not call the most obvious horse collar even though the official was 2 ft from it. Also did not stop a play where Mario Pender's helmet came off while carrying the ball. Kept letting USF guys hit him.
Offensive linemen being more than 3 yards down the field. Although, unless they were down there blocking the DB who was supposed to be covering the receiver, it didn't effect the play.
I think the stress is starting to get to Saban. So he's resorting to blaming refs and NCAA rules.
Has a reason to complain about the OL more than 3yds down field. Not the pass due to Kelly not being all the way across LOS. It only takes a foot to be behind the line for the pass to be legit.
I suspect the NCAA will change the 3yd rule to match the NFL rule of 1 yd. Should be changed to match it IMO.
If it is valid they should. Ours doesn't win or lose. But a coach doesnt complain when his team wins
Yep, but I bet it will be top of the agenda this year. Even RIck Nueheisel states it should be changed. And he is as pro PAC & up tempo spread offense as anyone. They had that proposed rule change up on the block this past off-season, and it didn't make the cut.

A PAC cocksucker. He is yours.Neweasel hah! He's a class-A cocksucker.

OL downfield affects these plays, even if it not direct. These are near impossible to defend. LBs see OL shooting down field and fill. Now there is no underneath coverage. Secondary is looking for a high hat read and the OL fire out low and go for 5 yards, so they are out of position.
Id wager that 1 of every 5 pass plays in CFB see offensive linemen more than 3 yards downfield, especially screen passes. There is a reason the OL is able to block 10 yards down the field for WR or RB that catch screens and it is NOT because the OL is faster than the skill position guys.
This is the problem. Its not the that the rule needs to be changed to match the NFL. The first step is actually enforcing the rule currently in the books. This has been going on for years in the Big 12.

Yepper. Its almost irritating when they do call it since for every one call they make there is 10 they dont.
