Now that details have come out, it certainly places all the risk on Okung. He should fire his agent.:D

I just read the details ... Okung just got shamboozled by Mr Elway.... No guaranteed money in this contract ...

Not as hard as we think? How so?

How so? because to many of you think for some weird reason that Okung was some kind of Elite LT, He was Average at best. His best days are behind him and the drop off when he missed games was not that bad and that was with Baily. I think they can do better than Baily through the draft.

Im for trading up in the first to get our guy, we have a lot of picks and will have a lot next year too
We would have to give up our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks to move up to about the 15th spot. Our FO would have to be absolutely sold on a guy to do that. I would be surprised to see our FO do that. Apparently last years rookie tackles got smoked, all of them.

we wont have to trade up that high, the second tier OTs will be available around pick 20. at least so it seems at this point. we traded a ton of picks to get a WR last year, i dont see why we cant trade up for a critical position like LT.

I don't consider him elite, but above average and even a solid LT is difficult to find. Baily for example wasn't up to the job. I hoping they address LT with their 1 st pick and come away with a decent LT for the future, but it's a crap shoot finding good OL in the draft. All you got to do is see how LTs in the last three draft have been to realize it's not easy finding a even a solid LT.

If it doesn't work, they can just point more fingers at Cable. Win/win.

Harold, when I said an average OL line should cost about $15-$20 million i meant that is probably what the average dollars are spent by NFL teams on the OL position group. Looking it up, the #16 team ranked by spending on the OL position group was about $19 million.
So my point was if we were to spend on the OL what the average NFL team does we would have to increase our expense roughly $11 million.

Interesting view point from Clayton...

Clayton: Russell Okung's deal with Denver could be historically bad

On Thursday, the one-time Pro Bowl left tackle made his decision, leaving the Seahawks to join the Broncos on a five-year, $48 million deal – sort of. As it turns out, the contract doesn't include a single dollar of guaranteed money, and Denver has the option after 2016 to either pay him $48 million for four years or cut ties with him completely.

ESPN NFL senior writer John Clayton levied his verdict on Okung's performance as an agent on 710 ESPN Seattle's "Bob, Groz and Tom," and it's safe to say he's not a fan.
"It's horrible," Clayton said. "It's now starting to be regarded as maybe the worst contract for a sub-30, Pro Bowl-caliber player ever done in free agency."

"In this case it's even worse than we imagined. In some ways you could look at this as a one-year, $3 million contract, or in one way, maybe a one-year, $1 million contract," Clayton said. "What happens if he blows out an Achilles and gets hurt? All the risk went on Russell Okung."

The deal also doesn't give Okung the ability to capitalize if he ends up playing a stellar 2016 for the Broncos.

"To make matters worse, let's say that he has a great season. He'd be in a position as a free agent, if he just did a simple one-year deal, that he could hit the market and get above $12 million a year. But no, he had to go ahead and do this deal," said Clayton. "You just shake your head."

The contract doesn't offer any security should the Broncos come across another option at left tackle they like better, either.

"What happens if the Denver Broncos are sitting down there at the bottom of the first round (of the NFL Draft) and a left tackle drops to them? Is it possible that they could say, 'You know what, we're just gonna trade you because there's no guarantee that we need to have you' and ship him over to Detroit or another team?"

"It's so team-favorable it's unbelievable."

Most of us figured not having an agent could cost him a lot of dough... This is a great example of why you should pay the 3% commissions to an agent, especially when you have zero, zilch, nada, experience on negotiating contracts in the NFL... Okung got taken to the woodshed by Mr. Elway...

I think this report came about because they pulled their offer, there for he went to Denver without a offer from the Seahawks, but who knows...right?

The way I see it is any offer has to be better then what Denver offered. Right?

Unless there were no guarantees, which I doubt. Think Okung just took one on the chin. The Broncos contract is a lose lose contract for him. If he gets hurt he's screwed , if he plays fantastic he'll be playing for less then he could make on the market as a FA.

If I was in the office, I would not give him an initial offer.

I would have given him an offer just to stay face knowing he would turn it down. No reason to burn bridges if there's a slight chance Okung would come back at our price.

Somebody had to offered up some kind of up front money to him. I'm starting to wonder if he didn't fully understand the language of the contract that Denver threw at him and he just saw the 53 million and said hell ya.

Heard the Steelers offer had zero guarantees. Starting to wonder about that shoulder surgery, might be some thing more serious than Okung made it sound.

A GM needs to be good at communicating. One can accomplish what they want without offending anyone.

That's the most one sided deal I've ever heard of. Maybe Okung should have gotten an agent.

How many times did Okung say "I know my value " the fact is he didn't. He had no clue. Must of be like having a bucket of freezing ice water thrown in his face when he started hearing offers.

He went from average offers to picking probably the worst offer for himself.

He had zero leverage because he was one of the last OL standing... Gotta jump in while the fires hot... He jumped in when the fire was out, basically leaving him the leftovers...

I am of the opinion that Denver offered Okung more than any other team.
He had hired an adviser and a contract expert.
I just think he didn't have crap for offers, including what our FO thought he was worth.
