We're these comments right before the game started? Watched the game yesterday but only starting at the first pitch. Must have missed this.

Yeah, she has Pancreatic Cancer. We wouldn't and shouldn't have known this if it weren't for Curt Schilling deciding to say it in his podcast without their permission.

RIP Wake.

thats pretty much the worst cancer to get

sucks

I remember you just never wanted to be the batter against Wakefield in video games. It was always tough to hit that damn knuckle ball

Boomer Esiason on his morning radio show couldn't say enough nice things about Wakefield after he heard the news. Apparently they attended a number of the same charity golf events over the years and Boomer always sought him out. They were at an event a couple of months back and Boomer said Tim didn't look sick and was absolutely crushing the ball. Boomer knew he was sick but never said anything publicly until after he passed and was not thrilled with Schilling for putting it out there.
Wakefield really took one for the team in game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. If he doesn't do the mop up work in that game who knows what the pitching staff would have looked like in the rest of that series.

Supposedly pancreatic cancer is extremely painful. I don’t know someone who’s had it but that’s what I’ve heard.
