First round - pick #14 - Nick Travieso

Archbishop McCarthy High School, Ft Lauderdale, FL

Some might consider this a reach, but the Reds clearly love talented, power arms and that's precisely what Travieso is. The prep from Florida's favorite player is Roger Clemens and the youngster flings heat like his idol. Travieso can reach the high-90's and has the potential to develop two plus secondary pitches. But therein lies the rub: Travieso will have to develop a pair of complements to his nasty fastball or iron out his control, or he'll be destined for the bullpen. If he can't do either, he's going to wash out.

Compensatory Pick - #49 - Jesse Winker - RF

Olympia HS, Orlando, FL

He did decent for a kid getting drafted out of high school. Found one scouts report on him.
not a fan, what you see is what you get and he certainly has the body and fits the uniform well and the ball will jump off his bat, but true turn around power and alley power vs ML velocity is not there for me, arm is average and speed is a touch below average, suited for a Corner position in the OF or 1b eventually, for me a late round guy, but someone will take him early and over project on him.

Compensatory Pick - #57 - Jeff Gelalich - OF

UCLA

Bats left handed, throws right. Hit .383 this season. A semi-finalist for the golden spikes award.

Gelalich has always been the type of toolsy prospect that displays significant upside but lacks the all-around consistency. A left-handed hitter, he has a compact, low-to-the-ground setup and opts not to use a stride. As a result, he has some loft in his swing, which has been especially noticeable this spring with the spike in his power totals.

He’s always possessed respectable plate discipline, but this season he’s demonstrated an even more mature approach that improves the projection of both his power and hit tool.

In the outfield, Gelalich’s above-average speed is enough to handle either center or right field, although his arm is probably best suited for the latter. But given his power potential, he may ultimately be more valuable if he can handle center field.

If Galalich continues to develop at his current rate, look for him to reach the majors by the end of the 2014 season.

We did. Everyone we have taken was projected to go much later.
