"The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a deal with the Boston Red Sox that would send star outfielder Mookie Betts and starter David Price to the Dodgers, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN.

The deal is pending medical reviews.

Outfielder Alex Verdugo will be the centerpiece of the package headed back to Boston, sources said. It wasn't immediately clear what additional players were involved nor how much money, if any, Boston was sending to Los Angeles to complete the deal.

With the bidding for Betts heating up between the Dodgers and the National League West rival San Diego Padres in recent days, Boston chose to deal with Los Angeles and improve the team that lost in the division series to the Washington Nationals, the eventual World Series champions."

Guiltily sometimes watching big market teams not being able or willing to pay their best players is nice for a change, though.

Only player mentioned heading to Boston is Alex Verdugo....so far, but he's just the centerpiece of the Dodgers trade pieces.

Verdugo had a nice season but for someone that was a pretty highly touted prospect, his minor league batting stats come off as pretty meh (not much walks, average-ish power). I think he'll be hard pressed to match Mookie's 2016 or 2019 production and while he looks like a very capable outfielder, he probably won't be as good as Mookie was. Mookie has the 2nd most WAR since the beginning of 2015 behind only Trout (44.2 to 35.4). The closest to Mookie is Kris Bryant... at 27.8. Being behind Trout is nothing to be ashamed of, they should have locked Mookie up IMO.

Graterol is intriguing. He's young and progressed through the minors pretty quickly though his strikeout rates weren't too great in A+ or AA. It'll be interesting to see if the Sox use him as a reliever like the Twins did when he came up or if they put him in the rotation.

The Red Sox rotation could get pretty ugly, especially if Rodriguez and/or Sale go down.

as you should. Enjoy Mookie.

Red Sox are getting Brusdar Graterol from the Twins. He's a young pitching prospect that threw some innings with the Twins last year. He has a nice fastball and slider, though he may be suited for the bullpen.

Maeda is going to Minnesota.

Sox are also supposedly giving up a lot of cash for the Price contract.

This is a terrible terrible trade for the Red Sox.

Betts might be the best player in baseball, non-Trout division.

I get that Betts wouldn't do an extension but the Sox have as deep pockets as anyone in baseball.

You mean WHEN Sale and Erod go down

To Eduardo's credit, he did make 34 starts last year. Some of his injuries have been kind of freak injuries (the slip injury, the first base collision).
