Per NBC Sports (Aaron Gleeman)

Red Sox sign Carlos Marmol to a Minor League Deal. Hasn't pitched regularly in the majors since 2013

In 2014:
8.10 ERA
13 IP

Last Season in Triple A -

31 Innings
2.03 ERA
48/27 K/BB ratio

IF he can do what he did in Triple A worth a shot... and right now it's a minor league deal so that doesn't mean much

However, he has walked 6.2 batters per 9 innings that's god awful

and he's walked 27 in 31 innings in Triple A

He's "just in case" fall back for the bullpen. He had a couple of great years and the Red Sox pick these guys up in hopes they can catch lightning in a bottle for one last storm.

with two years of absolute crap you would think the Red Sox wouldn't try and sign people "hoping" they catch fire.

Hard to get your hopes up for a guy walking almost a batter per inning.

Classic example of a low risk no reward scenario.

Just remember that it's a minor league deal and not a major league deal. There's no guarantee he pitches any regular season innings for the Sox.

Very true. Still though, they could have gotten someone that would actually make the roster

u mean this guy:suds:

Facing his old team, Daniel Bard pitched a perfect ninth to finish off the Red Sox on Monday.
Bard is back throwing 93-95 mph and finding the strike zone this spring. It'd be tremendous to see him find his way back to the majors with the Pirates after all he's dealt with. He didn't even pitch in the minors last year, and in 2014, he gave up 13 runs in two-thirds of an inning for Single-A Hickory.

Wish him all the best. The Red Sox totally f'd him up when they tried to make him a starter
