Jay Gruden informed the Jaguars today that he is not interested in any head coaching vacancies and will stay with the Bengals per Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network

Great news to hear. Gives Dalton stability in his scheme going into next year. Now maybe we will see Gruden open that offense up.

He's an interesting guy. Years ago he reportedly turned down chances to become a coordinator because he didn't want to move his family. That's much different than most of these coaching nomads that have no problem moving all over the place.

Here's a thought though...... By all accounts, Marvin is moving into another lame-duck coaching season. My thinking last time this happened was that Marvin wanted a new job and was hoping to parlay a good lame-duck season (09) into a high profile position. However, he fell flat on his face with the four wins, his agent sniffed around some openings (remember the report that his agent floated his name to SF?) and it turned out nobody was interested. If he makes the playoffs in '12 that would be two playoff seasons in a row. Some have already suggested that there is a shortage of qualified coaches, so maybe Marv jumps to a higher profile job? That would then put Gruden in line to take over the HC job in Cincinnati.

Very possible. Could Gruden have already talked to Brown about being promoted either near the end of this season or even as he negotiated his contract?

That would be the ideal situation. There is a guy on footballpros.com that is a Bengals fan. He's a smart guy, but he is in the Lewis camp, based on the fact that if we get a new HC, then Mike Brown is going to go back to making all of the personnel decisions, whereas Marvin has a lot of input and has done a good job with drafting. He's partially right on that front, so the ideal solution seems to be to move Marvin to GM and hire a better HC. That won't happen obviously, but I would love it.

That would be the best thing for the organization. Marv is good in his talent evaluation at some positions.

I've had no issue with the past couple drafts...but 2003-09 were pretty bad. I was listening to 'bengals line' on the way home from work the other night and they were talking to an assistant coach about the offseason. He said he got to sleep in a couple days then it's non stop 'scouting' How do you scout when there is no football being played? I guess they watch video but other teams have had guys doing this for months.

It's amazing how much credit this coaching staff gets for getting a team to luck into the playoffs after the Jets and other teams lose and then getting their ass beat by a banged up Houston team.

That's nothing compared to the credit that Marvin got after losing Henry and Zimmer's wife all the way to COY despite losing something like 4 of his last 6 games following Henry's death.

coach of the year...

good grief.

He just looks like a beaten down alcoholic wife standing there on the sidelines. He looks like he's accepted that he's powerless to actually make a real difference.
