Emphasis on his AAA line coming in 15 games... he's a career .216/.348/.356 hitter in the minors. Not sure how that compares to minor league pitchers though. His minor league pitching stats are pretty spectacular though.

Probably will end being a pitcher only with that .700 minor league ops.

Yeah, his stats make it more likely long-term he'll be a pitcher in the MLB. Don't think he'll be a hitter when he gets to the majors.

McKay will be called up and start Saturday's contest against the Rangers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Spin: Rumors have swirled that McKay could get the call as soon as mid-July, though he'll get to make his major-league debut much sooner. While the Rays were initially keeping his pitch count to around 65 since he was up to Triple-A Durham, he stretched out to 85 pitches in his last start on June 22. McKay has proven ready for the major leagues with his performance at Durham, posting a 1.08 ERA and 0.76 WHIP with 26 strikeouts across 25 innings.

5.03 ERA so far in 39 innings. he does have a 48/12 K/BB ratio and 6 of those walks came in one start.

Shohei gets all the talk but Michael Lorenzon is the best 2 way player IMO.

Ohtani's the better player IMO, but Lorenzen's more of a 2 way player at this point. Ohtani hasn't thrown a pitch this year and it remains to be seen if he'll even pitch again. Lorenzen is a great hitting pitcher but we're still talking about a relief pitcher that gets ~30 plate appearances per season. Ohtani has 792 plate appearances and he's hit .285/.351/.532.

Lorenzen is a very fun player though. I didn't realize he's also stolen three bases this year.

I really hope not. I want to see two way players, especially in this era of bullpen usage. A 4th/5th OF who can pitch in middle relief would have a lot of value from a roster construction perspective.

I hope not as well but if he is any indication of what a two way player will do in the majors then it could be a problem but it would be great to see him do well.. As well as Ohtani

Unfortunately, I don't think two-way starting pitchers are going to be a reality in today's game especially with today's velocity and breaking balls. A two-way knuckleballer would be pretty rad though.

That would be sweet for a 2 way knuckleballer... Wakefield come out of retirement
