I always like to see consensus opinions on these type of opinion threads.

I got:

1A. Tim Duncan 1997
1B. Lebron James 2003
3. Shaquille Oneal 1992
4. David Robinson 1987
5. Patrick Ewing 1985
6. Allen Iverson 1996
7. Dwight Howard 2004
8. Chris Webber 1993
9. Blake Griffin 2009
10. Derrick Coleman 1990

Lebron might one day surpass Duncan.
I dont think anyone else is in the running to challenge him for now.

That is insulting to Kwame to lump him with Bennett.

But, I wouldn't mine seeing how people look at guys like Joe Smith and Glen Robinson.

Rank as in best player, or rank as in best value for the pick, or rank as in meant the most to the team?

Time Duncan clearly did the most for the team that drafted him.
But IMO, LeBron already passed Duncan as an individual player.
And I don't think either one was as game changingly dominant as Shaq was in his prime with the old rules.

This is what makes it difficult to judge, imo. The rules were a bit different when Timmy and Shaq were the #1 picks.

For my money though, Timmy is #1 for the lottery era. Hard to argue with 5 titles. I'm not sure that I agree re: Lebron surpassing him as an individual player. It's 2 different positions with different skills required.

Rank them any way you want to rank.

But what did Orlando get out of Shaq??

And Cleveland did get a ton out of Lebron....but his absolute best years were in Miami.

I factored in their career accomplishments overall as most important.
but I also used titles for the franchise that actually made the pick as important as well.

The same thing that Cleveland got out of Lebron during his 1st go around. A lot more wins than they were used to and their franchises first trip to the finals.

Joe Smith, Glen Robinson, Andrew Bogut, Kenyon Martin.....

Those types are always the hardest ones to judge how the career and pick value went.

They are the classic non-bust/non-stars

Can't really disagree with your list. The Spurs were launched into a championship franchise once Timmy got drafted. He's made the Spurs a consistent winner over the last damn near 20 years. His career (team-wise) is better than Lebron's in terms of titles.

As another poster mentioned, Miami was fortunate enough to get Lebron during his absolute prime. Which doesn't help Cleveland out at all.

I agree with the Original post for the most part. I think Coleman could be eventually replaced by AD. KAT looks great so far as well and could have a monster career if he keeps developing.

Real Question though: Where does Yao Ming rank for you guys? He was a monster player who just got plagued by injuries.

Lebron can play multiple positions, but so can a lot of guys. Heck, Magic played center. Would rather have him or Kareem as your full time center? Was Magic greater individually than Kareem who is arguably the greatest center ever to play?

Lebron is a small forward and doesn't have to rely on other players getting him the ball. Duncan does. It's 2 different skill sets. They are both elite players, but claiming one has somehow surpassed the other as an individual player seems a bit of a reach considering the different skill sets their positions require.

Imo, Lebron will likely end up being regarded as the greatest small forward of all time and Timmy will likely go down as the greatest power forward of all time.
