Welcome to Norman!

Defensive tackle Quincy Russell has arrived at Oklahoma | News OK

NORMAN — At long last, junior-college defensive tackle signee Quincy Russell arrived at Oklahoma on Wednesday afternoon, according to a post on his Facebook account.

Russell (6-foot-3, 311 pounds) signed with the Sooners in December out of Trinity Valley Community College, but his arrival was delayed as he finished up classes to secure his academic eligibility.

He’s a couple weeks late to fall training camp, but Russell will certainly be welcomed into the fold on a defensive line lacking in experience.

The San Antonio native originally signed with Texas out of high school, but was forced to take the junior-college route because of academic issues.

Offensive tackle Josiah St. John, one of Russell’s Trinity Valley teammates, also signed with OU and joined the team just before fall camp began.

“He’s a monster … a complete animal,” St. John said in February. “He’s big, fast, strong.

“I’m pretty sure he’s gonna make a big impact.”

Let's hope Quincy is all he has been reported to be...if so, this will cure a lot of ills for OU.

This is great news indeed. Damn, it's crazy how thin/inexperienced we are on D-line.

Size doesn't mean anything if he can't play. And by that I mean able to get off the double teams which will obviously be coming his way or at the very least make it where other linemen can take advantage of him being double teamed.

I've stopped hoping that our DT's/D-line can get penetration to the QB.
I've lowered my expectations to just hoping we can hold our own and plug the holes, instead of getting blown off the ball and these huge running lanes being created by the opposing offense.

Let us pray.
"Dear Lord, please give Quincy the talent, strength, speed, and power to rip their heads off"
amen

And stop the run. And pray to the good Lord that the running game of old comes back to OU.

Honestly, I don't mind the passing game but I'd like to see OU just shove the ball down the throat of the defense on the ground like they used to. Dare them to stop the run and then hit them with the pass.

Bob doesn't even begin to understand the running game.
And he's had the master of it sitting in Norman since day one.

All Hail Barry

I want to see OU run the fucking ball right down the opponent's throat and dare them to stop it. I don't care what anybody else says, run the fucking ball until they force you to pass. Switzer and Wilkinson both did it. If the defense can't stop the run they will lose!

Good article about him in today's Oklahoman. Kid does have a work ethic evidently so here's hoping he gets enough reps in practice to be in the game come Aug. 31.
