PS3 to PC movie transfer?

Been searching google for a answer on this without much luck. The majority of the topics cover PC to PS3 transfers not the other way around. Are you able to transfer from your PS3 to your PC with a USB cord? Or do you need a USB memory stick to copy the data. Then inserting the stick into your PC to transfer the copied information? I have also seen some stuff on Ethernet cords working as well. But when I try to find the media server on PS3 I also get no server found. Even though the server is enabled.
