Atkins deserved it over the ones who were voted in as starters anyway. He got penalized for being on the Bengals. Dalton was as good as any of the other options in the AFC. Gresham doesn't seem to be a pro-bowler though.

Gresham's the only one I would question....Dalton benefits from the overall lack of excellent quarterbacking in the AFC........Brady, Roethlisberger, and Rivers are a given, after those three it's a crapshoot.....Schwab is hurt, and Dalton's numbers are at least comparable, and in many cases better, than the others.....Atkins got screwed in the first place, as Vance said......

Dalton's numbers rank around 20-23 IIRC. But I guess most those ahead could be in the NFC.

The only guy who posted significantly better numbers and didn't make the team was Matt Moore.....Dalton's numbers were comparable with Flacco's, Palmers, and Hasselbeck's, and better than Fitzpatrick's, Tebow's, Cassel's (injured anyway), Painter's, Gabbert's, Sanchez's, and McCoy's.....really not much competition below the top three in the AFC, so when one of them's out, I could see Dalton getting the call, especially when compared with Moore, who posted better numbers over fewer games, but didn't win as much......

I kind of getting the feeling that Dalton was added because of the fan vote, and his near miss with ROY. He had a ROY worthy season, but it was kind of overshadowed by the freak that is Cam Newton.
