I don't think Price is a great manager , but I'm not sure a new manager would make any difference at this point . So I guess I'm neutral, For this season.
Compared to other managers in the NL, let's take a look that the ones who currently are considered "great" ones:
Bochy -- looked like a H of F guy for 3 years until his top pitchers hit the wall. Now he's 30-some games out of first place. Genius rides on great pitching. Roberts -- When the Dodgers do this twice, I will be convinced. But it's the pitching that's winning there, not the roster. Maheny -- who looked like a guru when the Cardinals had an unearthly RISP. Now that their pitching hit the wall, Matheny is being booed out of town. Dusty Baker -- same thing, different city. Talent makes a guy look good. Max and Gio are pretty good indicators of that. If the Nats had more pitching, Dusty would be a genius. Maddon -- Cubs had a historic offense in 2016 and they are going to win the NL-C this year because Matheny's team sucks, the Brewers were not really ready and the Pirates, not unlike the other teams, ran out of pitching. Hurdle has other problems there, though.
I think the story is the same around the AL as well. Francona, with a stable of great arms, is the "greatest" manager of them all.
Well, retained. I suppose I can live with this. I didn't like Price much after 2015 but I think he's come a long way.
Now if he can get a team together.
Talent is the key if a manager is good or bad. Now this doesn't apply to all Managers. Some see to get in the way of themselves. I thought Dusty did that by playing bench player to much. Dusty is just an example there are more.
