Obviously
So what's the bottom line.

too soon to tell.

From my reading between the lines, The SEC wants part of the action, the B1G doesn't seem to care at this point. But they will eventually. Anytime money is involved, the schools want a part of it.

I could see this happening, the colleges become the agents for the athletes.

There could be a whole bunch of crap coming out of this.

You do not have to attend classes
You get a 4.0 automatically
A car
An apartment
A cook
A cleaning service
Money to your parents

Obviously, the pitch is no longer about getting into the NFL, it is about being pampered when you are an 18 year old.

of course, the college will take a cut of the action on top of their other monies from the entire team.

So what's the bottom line.

They know the athlete selling his likeness is a done deal. They will not be able to stop it. Thus they are
giving their "approval" and pressuring Congress to not let the athletes over do it. They want to cap earnings
and they do not want schools involved in anyway.

They don't want their income from Booster donations affected by a Booster giving money to an individual athlete, that exceeds what other athletes get.

I don't think they need Congress to write the rules for them, nor do they want it, but they are seeking permission
fromCongress to write their own rules on the matter.

The Universities probably want to control their own image.
You just can't let anyone make money on your image.

Without question that would be one of their concerns. Say...The school has a deal with Nike (and those involve millions
of dollars) they do not want one of their athletes signing a deal with Under Armor and trying to wear their shoes, or
putting his face on their clothing or shoes.

All the other points aside, I still have never heard anything about the players having to maintain Academic eligibility.
