I just don't know. Tough call. You want the SP to try and find their command ... but you don't want the game to slip away from you as you try that approach.
I saw Garret Cole give up a 2 run homer in the 1st and then another homer in the 3rd. He was pulled there. It was a WC game ... but he also looked shakey ...
Just don't have many chances to correct things in the playoffs.
It's a different animal for sure, the playoffs are almost a different sport...

Hmmm only 12 pitchers....I trust them
Two of the 4 AL teams are going with 12 pitchers and so are the Braves. The 2 other AL teams went with 13 pitchers and the Brewers are going with 11! The Dodgers are the only team to not officially announce their roster.

For a 7 game series I could see them taking 13 pitchers perhaps
I could see Cueto being added for the NLCS (assuming we make it past the Dodgers, no easy task). I would guess one of the following 4 who gets the least playing time/least productive would get the boot: Dickerson, Duggar, Slater, Solano.

Oh…

By “leading pitcher”, you meant the starter. I thought you meant the first reliever (or something like that…). I think you give the starter the first inning, almost regardless. Maybe a 2-run leash in the first? I think it depends on if the pitcher is missing his spots, throwing dead balls, or just getting beat. If he is missing his spots or throwing dead balls, he will have a shorter leash than if he is just getting beat.

I thought Cueto would be good in the Petit role but I agree with you the extra batter is more useful
I actually tend to agree. He motion is also so unique that it would be a good way to break the batters timing in the middle of the game.

But as you said, I trust that the FO has spent probably the last week, non-stop, working out this roster.

That's my thinking too, another pitcher maybe for a 7 game series. I think it would be Dickerson out unless he does well this series. Defense and speed matter and it's not like Duggar's bat is so much worse than Dick's.

hmm

Wish GP was still here for a bunch of reasons, but miss his ridiculous brain for synthesizing data points and then letting us know if he thought it was good/shit analysis.

Playoff roster selections intrigue me. The Atlanta Braves are carrying Terrance Gore on their roster. Gore did not make any appearance on a regular season roster but will be in the playoffs.

Here is where the change in September callups affects regular season preparation for the postseason as well. The Braves most likely would have called up in September if they have the ability to carry extra players. Now? They dfa a member of the team for half a season (and their primary backup catcher) to purchase the contract of a minor league veteran who did not make an appearance in the big leagues this year. I know it is okay to do so under the rules. Just seems weird.

Dick Dick: 312 PA .233/.304/.420 95 OPS+ 13 HR -0.9dWAR
Dig Dug: 297 PA .257/.330/.437 107 OPS+ 8 HR 0.5 dWAR

all this matches the eye test. Ideally, you'd like both. In a longer series, you'd have to choose one over the other tho. That said, the power difference is significant.

Indeed
Duggar has a higher slugging and OPS+
I don't think it's even a debate seeing those numbers

The power difference is significant? DigDug beats Dick .437 vs .420.

First post in months….

And it qualifies for Post of the Year.

Welcome back, friend.
Thank you. Quality, not quantity.

The excitement of the WSC hunt outweighed my extreme distaste for wokeball in general.

Good to be here.
