NFL relaxes celebration rules, can still penalize

Moving forward, commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday, players will be allowed to use the ball as a prop. They'll be allowed to celebrate on the ground -- in instances such as snow angels -- and will also be able to celebrate in groups once again.

While I always applaud the guys that just hand the ball to the ref and move on, some of the celebrations in the past were pretty funny when done right. I always looked forward to Ocho Cinco's celebration. Randy Moss mooning the crowd I thought was flippin' hilarious but obviously that'd still be penalized.

Anyway, the thing that annoys me about this is it's just creating more confusion. Let them celebrate however or just keep it the same (no celebration). Now it's ONE more thing for refs to have to exercise 'judgment' on whether to throw a flag. So now you're going to get controversial calls on when a flag is thrown for celebration, ugh. I guess it doesn't really matter THAT much anymore since most kickers can always get a touchback... but I guess you could pooch punt it and try to land it short of the end zone since you're kicking from the 50 yard line lol.

Just waiting for when some good team is playing Seattle in CenturyLink and the ref throws a controversial celebration flag against the away team and it's BLOWN up all over media about how some team got jobbed by Seattle refs.

my opinion is the NFL is sore about being called the No Fun League. I don't think they are pushing too many people away, but I think younger fans like to see their favorite players celebrate...I guess.

I don't know, it feels like Goodell can't make up his mind as to what he wants to do. In his mind, he wants a bunch of Barry Sanderses who just hand the ball over. I just don't think his celebration penalty was stopping players from actually celebrating.

Oh, and twerking should be penalized with lethal force, not a 15 yard penalty. So I also disagree with that.
