I was shocked when I discovered this…

Player 1:
IMG_2177.jpeg

Player 2:
IMG_2178.jpeg

Both of these represent 2019 - 2023. Player 1 had his age 32 season in ‘23 while Player 2 had his age 28 season in ‘23.

Player 2 is definitely better, but the difference isn’t that extreme.

I have no idea who either player is but I will point out that player 2's 2020 season was horrendous and helped his career OPS+ get closer to player #1. I do wonder what their career OPS+ would be if each of their worst season were excluded.

2020 also has the least weight irt his career numbers…

One of the players is a current Giant, obviously…

Player 2 is faster, and walks with the higher OBP. I prefer him on the Giants.

Except it will still weigh in on the career OPS+ number. Not as heavily as a full season of 71 would but still a big deal. Then again, player #1's 97 over a full season may have the same impact on career OPS+. Don't know but I think that the outlier season for both players removed would make for a larger difference in production. Both are above average but if player #2 is younger and has better seasons, and they play the same position, I'd probably go with player #2.

My intention was not a “who would you take, all else being equal”. That is obvious that player 2 would win that argument. My point is just that the difference between the 2 players surprised me.

I figured out the players today. Didn't really think too much into how they compared to each other.

:noidea:

I thought it was interesting. Reynolds isn’t as good as his rep says he is. And Yaz, who imho is good, but not great, actually compares somewhat favorably to Reynolds, who everyone seems to want to trade the farm to get back in the fold.

I've held the thought that if the Giants were to trade to get Reynolds back, they would likely lose two trades involving him. Reynolds is good and the trade to ship him to Pittsburgh was dumb but the new FO would be just as dumb as the old one if they shipped off some prospects to bring him in. Of course, I don't really think Lee is much of an upgrade over the current outfield crop but at least he didn't cost prospects.

They paid Lee a lot of money, but they arent spending the money anywhere else, so who cares. I am reserving my opinion on his ability until I actually have some kind of idea of what he can do. I have absolutely no clue if he is any good or not.

But I like the fact they got him. The Giants will now get attention in a new market and could now be viewed as a potential landing spot for Asian FAs moving forward.

Will the Giants introduce a Korean speaking PbP team this year?

IMO it’s pretty significant. Player 2 is younger, plays a lot more, is faster, better hitter, better OBP.

it’s not real close

And they’ve got an angle on Kim next offseason since he is Lee’s bff, in addition to BoMel loving Kim.
