Padres sold?

Almost, but not quite. I read today that a business group headed by Peter O'Malley (of "the Dodger O'Malleys") is sniffing around and has bought the Padres (subject to approval of MLB) ... for a reported $800M!

O'Malley was the one who said he got out of baseball (paraphrasing) because baseball started trended away from family ownership and more towards corporate ownership/sponsorship.

The thing that jumps out at me is $800m. That's about twice what it was last year. So it's looking like the massive overpayment for the Dodgers has driven up the price of all baseball teams, the same way that the massive overpayment for Zito ballooned the price of all pitching back in '07.

The Giants ownership group must be very happy right now.
