OT: Smart Meters

how long have you had it. is your house heated by gas or electricity? mine is gas so Im not too worried about that. I dont have hot tub or pool and have energy efficient tvs. just so many bad stories out there but not one of them is someone I know

I haven't received my new smart meter yet, but the biggest drop in my BC Hydro bill was putting in a new heat pump last year.

I just put in a new 17 seer heat pump and my bill jumped (from gas heat only). My smart meter was only installed 2 weeks ago so I don't have any data yet.

i think we've had it here in North Burnaby since around Labour Day 2011, I think? pretty sure it was late summer

house heated by gas ... water tank is gas as well.

we had a weird brown out shortly after the meter replacement and now my pot lights that i installed in the kitchen keep burning bulbs now . At first i thought it was a bad batch of light bulbs that i bought at Costco but i bought a new box and it continues ... now my wife is settled that the kitchen reno is a definite go ahead for the summer so i can rip out the bulkhead and put in better pot lights

Right after the brown out happened we had hydro come out and they tightening the connections on the meter and because we had a new circuit breaker box put in during the spring of 2010 when we did the basement reno the tech guy suggested we have our electrician tighten all the connections going into the circuit breaker box

Ive heard the stories of people having their electronics blow on them ... nothing like that has happened to me

BC Hydro have been able to lay off 700 "meter-readers" thanks to the smart reader and the rollout isnt even complete

gotta pay for all that new infrastructure

I did a slashing contract for Hydro in '06. Came across a nice sized plantation. I suppose you could call that stuff "BC Hydro".

...maybe not.
