Buying my bosses/coworkers some booze for Christmas. Asked for their specific likes, and one liked scotch/bourbon. What's a good one? Not like crazy expensive, but good? Other one just said Jameson, so I'm going to just go with that since it was a specific request.

Without getting too fancy, glenlivet is a nice thing to have around.
Matt will answer in more detail.

puck is correct, hard to go wrong with Glenlivet. I also like Macallan and Glenmorangie...

Agreed on all three. I've found Aberlour to be both delicious and affordable as well, but again, it depends on your budget (and also possible liquor taxes.)

There are also a couple really good $20-30 scotches. They surprise you. I can't remember the bottler, but they sample from the different regions and put together good blended and single malt scotches on the cheap. They're typically tamer versions of really good scotches. I'll ask my friend who introduced me to them.

Of course, a lot of scotches try to accomplish different things. I like smoky scotches more than pretty much anything else. Just something about drinking what tastes like a campfire. Others prefer something smoother, others yet something peatier.

For bourbon, well, they tend to be cheaper in general, and there are some good distilleries in the States. I've found some quite tasty whiskies from Watkins, Dickel, and a few others for under $20. There are also some good rye whiskies out there, but again, that's a bit of a different taste. I had a pretty incredible Dickel recently, their White Label. It was one of the best bourbons I've ever had, but I don't know how much it costs. It was a friend's.

My budget is actually fairly high. I'm just ruling out the insane $200 bottles, etc. Some of the GAs I work with wanted to go in on a bottle, and there's three of them. So it can be a bit pricey.

You've got room to play then. Wow. With that budget, you could get pretty fancy.

Again, pending liquor taxes.

Oh, that does change things.
An older macallans (18) would be a crowd pleaser for sure.

I was going to say the same thing (you might even be able to pump it up to Macallan 25). A Johnny Walker Blue Label would also be nice.

I'm a bourbon drinker myself. I would go with a nice bottle of Booker's or Blanton's.

Go to Costco and see if they have the special three pack in what looks like a mini half barrel. I picked on up a couple of weeks ago for just over $100. It comes with a 750 ml of 12, 15 and 18 year.

Oh man, if I had a Costco membership, that'd knock off a few people on my list.

Yup, we're out of my price range now, since I've never spent more than $60 on a bottle, so I'll just step back and let you more experienced drinkers take over.

Finding good whisk(e)y for minimal cost, though, that's my specialty. :D
