I think Maryland is at 18 medals after Rockville-native Helen Maroulis won the first American gold in female wrestling yesterday.

But Canada is killing us in bronze medals, we don't have a single one yet.

I still call this event ridiculous.

It's race walking... let's lay off the c-word.

;)

lol - As I posted earlier, when the winner walks 50K in 3 hours 40 minutes, that's moving quickly. These guys look to be in pretty damn fine shape to me.

Is it? I think I could walk 9 miles in that amount of time.

On a serious note, Dash. It is impressive.

But its the idea of a weird limitation on something we already do that is odd. It'd be like if they had swimming races, but only let you use one arm. Or played golf but you had to play opposite-handed for some reason.

But a lot of Olympic sports are like that. I never consider even some of the sprinters or swimmers great "athletes." Many of these people couldn't beat some of the posters on this board in game of basketball. They are disciplined and fast, but I know several great swimmers that are AWFUL at about any other sport they play. And at the same time, there are a number of events like ping pong or shooting that are hobbies or games more than sport.

But I guess that's what makes the Olympics fun - this hodge/podge of games, sports, disciplines, etc. and the chance to see events you really only see once every four years.

^TL;DR

There is no appeal of an appeal of appeal - Japan wins bronze in the 50K walk.

Veedubs and Beemers are infinitely better than Volvos and Saabs.

I love BMX. I just wish that for this stage they'd make the final a 3 heat race too.

Mainly because I want to see more of it.
