DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings today activated goaltender Chris Osgood from the injured reserve list and reassigned Joey MacDonald to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Osgood has missed 27 games since undergoing surgery on Jan. 11 for a sports hernia.
Osgood, in all likelihood, will back-up Jimmy Howard for Wednesday's game against the Washington Capitals at Joe Louis Arena and then start Thursday at Columbus. Osgood's last appearance was in a 5-3 win at Edmonton on Jan. 4. He is 5-3-2, with a 2.77 goals-against average and .903 save percentage this season.
MacDonald went 3-4-1, with a 2.47 GAA and .912 save percentage for the Red Wings.
