Is the all want to have the "us against the world" mentality.
This can work when you are ACTUALLY THE UNDERDOG!!! But even teams that are clearcut favorites use this for reasons I never understood. You are the favorite, act like it. This reverse psychology affects teams like Wichita this year, Gonzaga in years past, and other schools as well. My guess would be that it subconsciously makes the team think that the other team is more dominant than they are so they have to try extra hard to compensate. This contributes to the team not playing how they normally do.
Wanna know how it was obvious that Wichita had this mentality? When they mentioned before the game that they were gonna stand up to Kentucky because they were not intimidated by them. Are you kidding me? You are the fucking 1 seed and they are the fucking 8 seed. You don't need to have that mentality. If anything, they should be the ones saying they are not intimidated in you!
