So this weekend in the Texas Tech Oklahoma State game. TT was attempting an onside kick, the OSU player signaled for a fair catch, at which point the TT players could not recover the ball. Is the NFL rule written differently?

How Oklahoma State successfully thwarted Texas Tech's onside kick recovery
no it wouldnt affect a typical Onside.

This one, the kicker kicked the ball into the air. Which allowed for a fair catch sign (quick thinking BTW)
Kickers in the NFL, kicks the ball into the ground which means you cant have a fair catch once the football hits the ground.
but if they did pooch kick it into the air. yes you could call a fair catch.

That's why they bang it into the ground to try and get it to pop in the air. Once it hits the ground it is a free ball for anyone to recover. The rule in college is the same as the NFL.
