Does anyone know what the rule on clock stoppage is in College Football. With about 40 seconds left Alabama was trying to run down the clock to end the game. As they lined up with about 3 seconds on the play clock there was a false start.

The refs called the penalty and marched off the penalty. They then started the clock and gave Alabama a new play clock. Was that an error? If not, is it not a way to effectively run out the entire 4th quarter if you have the lead.

I was pretty dumbfounded as well. That had to be an error.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunate for Arkansas since we have seen that anything can happen in 25 to 30 seconds. It seems to me that one of the other refs should have noticed. Also, since no play was run they could have put the time back on the clock, they do it all the time.

this is where the refs shouldn't be getting their game checks. that was an absolute embarrassment. they knew they fucked up and instead of fixing the mistake they hit the road. Arkansas staff is a bunch of morons too.

I saw the clock running and couldn't understand why Alabama didn't merely wait until the clock was under 40 seconds, and then take a knee. I don't think the bammers knew the clock would be running when they called the play. So I am not surprised that it was a mistake by the refs.

I wonder what would have happened if Arkansas protested the game

I didn't watch the game so was it 4th down possibly? That is strange they didn't just take a knee if not?

Ah I see now :suds:

It was really whacky. Of course the clock stops. Otherwise any team that has the lead and is on offense could just run the game out with taking delay penalties til the final clock strikes zero.

So Bama likely didn't even know the clock was running? Refs seem to make an awful lot of mistakes with the game on the line thee days.

I didn't see the game and it seems like the ones that did, thought it was odd. So my question is, why didn't anybody on the Arkansas sideline notice? No one tried to protest it?

Bielema complained to an official for a minute but the official seemed to tell him the game was over so he just put his hands up in frustration and walked to midfield to shake hands.

Was getting ready to say Arkansas should be pissed at that dumb ass Bielema for letting it happen. If he was doing his job he should've been raising hell until the correct time was put back on that clock.
