Los Angeles -- 8/22 -- Gonzalez Germen has been demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas to clear the roster spot for the activation of Bartolo Colon from bereavement leave.

• Colon is due to start against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. He then plans to return to the Dominican Republic for his mother's funeral. She passed away Monday at age 63 after a battle with breast cancer.

Germen made one appearance during his cameo with the Mets. He allowed a two-runs homer to Josh Reddick on Tuesday in Oakland.

FIRST PITCH: Jacob deGrom's NL Rookie of the Year bid, sidetracked by his DL stint, resumes Saturday as the Mets continue their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

DeGrom, who missed two starts with rotator-cuff tendinitis, has been activated and will face Zack Greinke and his balky elbow in the 9:10 p.m. ET game.

LOS ANGELES -- Jacob deGrom was cruising along, having faced one over the minimum through three innings Saturday night in his first start back from the DL. Juan Lagares also staked him to a 3-0 lead with a home run in the fourth.

That’s right about when the wheels started to come off. DeGrom walked the first batter he faced in the bottom of the fourth and eventually allowed two runs.

It got worse the next inning when Adrian Gonzalez demolished a 96 mph fastball left up in the zone for a three-run shot to help the Dodgers to a 7-4 victory at Dodger Stadium.

DeGrom finished with six innings and five runs allowed. He struck out seven and issued two walks, both to Carl Crawford, who scored both times.
