Toronto? Fuck. A mess. And there are probably tons of people who love the game, but prefer to sit in their easy chair with a big TV. But the arena is still full of people who are in the arena because they're clients of a company with season tickets. That's what the desert lacks, it seems.
Needed some fixing.

It's obvious many of have no idea wtf you are talking about.

Glendale shares a border with Phoenix. The Arena is adjacent to the loop 101 freeway. Less than a mile. Think of the 101 as a giant oval that connects the whole valley. Unless you live in the extreme east valley, Mesa/Chandler, it won't take but 30 mins to get to a 7 pm game.

The main issue with attendance is that the valley is a transplant town. Meaning that residents move from other parts of the country & bring their team allegiances with them. So if you aren't winning, your attendance is going to be poor. Look at Suns & Dbacks for the evidence. Usually they are both bottom third in attendance. Until the Cardinals built a new stadium & started putting money into the franchise, their stadium was half filled with opposing fans. Now that we had a SB run & a few playoff runs, since 2006, we have sold out the Big Toaster for every game.

The issue has never been the location of the Arena, the issue has always been about a team that has trouble putting a winning product on the ice. This is not a Hockey town. If you aren't winning, you aren't drawing attendance.

The cesspool just played an audio clip of a Coyotes fan speaking her mind at last night's council meeting - Wow, that was a terrific rant.

Apparently, she plays rec league hockey in the area. An enforcer, I'd wager.

Shame she doesn't have a car.

So, a person goes to another jurisdiction where she doesn't contribute taxes and asks that they spend other peoples' tax money?

I mean, don't they shoot people in Arizona just for looking at you the wrong way? She should be getting quartered after being hanged and drawn by now.

I dont really blame people in the Phoenix area for not wanting to drive out to some podunk town to watch hockey 41 nights a year. I just try and place the same type of situation in my area and I dont know who from Vancouver would drive out to Abbotsford to watch any form of hockey.

Coyotes had pretty good attendance when they played downtown in an arena that had horrible sitelines for hockey.

but like dash said .. probably too little too late

regardless ... 43 ... we might see a cool bmx video out soon which was shot in an abandoned Glendale arena
LOL. Glendale is not some ghost town in the middle of the desert. It's a city of over 225,000 people in the Phoenix metro area you doof. It's what Anaheim is to LA.

Actually the city should love that. People coming from other cities spending money there on stuff, and SALES TAX, and giving money to people and businesses there INCOME TAX. It is the reason they have the team. Spending money in Glendale, gas stations/restaurants/department stores instead of Scottsdale

North Phoenix/Glendale/Peoria are basically separated by 4-5 miles. You can start in Phoenix, drive through Glendale & end up in Peoria within 5 miles. Downtown Glendale is where the city council meeting was, is an exception. Downtown is located in the furthest south-east of the city. Think of the city as taking the shape of an backwards "L", downtown is located in that 90 degree area.

The problem many of our residents had with the meeting, is that it was a quickly put together meeting that took place right as many people normally would be getting home from work. We had little notice this meeting & vote were taking place. So anyone who wanted to voice their displeasure or support, had little time to get there to do so.

Another thing, many of the business owners in the entertainment district, the Yucca district, where the Arena is located, reside outside of Glendale. The metro-valley as a whole is a big homogeneous area that except for a few places, Scottsdale/Sun city/Tempe(ASU campus area), are very similar.

The fact that some of the residents that were at the meeting were from North Phoenix really doesn't make a difference.

Also, one or two of these council members are already facing a recall election in the fall. I have a feeling that some of the other council members may now be facing a recall election as well in the not too distant future, after this meeting & vote.

I rated your post solely for using the word "doof". :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

Except Anaheim's median household income is $15,000 more than Glendale's and the median household income of Orange County is $30,000 higher than that of Maricopa County. In that regard, it is more what San Bernardino is to LA than Anaheim, and there are no NHL teams in San Bernardino.

Why this is even relevant to the post you replied to?

The difference in median income between between Orange & Maricopa counties is $22k, not $30k. And the difference in median incomes between Anaheim & Glendale is only $11.7k. The difference in median income between Los Angeles & Glendale is $2k, between Los Angeles & Maricopa counties is $2.5k.

Are you telling me the Kings shouldn't exist in Los Angeles?

Again I am not sure of your point.

my post saying scottsdale was an hours drive from glendale was part hyperbole part question ... i didnt know and was corrected ... thanks

Ive heard some not too flattering descriptions about what Glendale has going on for it. sorry but the negatives have stuck with me. This one in particular:

"Past the barren fields and empty commercial lots, past the unoccupied developments and boarded-up houses, past the trailer parks and the pasture where 40 goats were grazing (kid you not), lies a pretty little downtown with charming little antique stores and gift shops. It's beautiful and clean, and you can bet that some lucky citizens are still living their version of the American dream not far from the town square"

Ive always compared that description with Abbotsford BC (similar distance away from vancouver, 125k population) ... no-one supported their AHL team so they lost it

So, while we wait for the lawyers to do their thang, where should the team move to?

AFAIK, Quebec City is the only option if you need an NHL-calibre rink by September. Are there other options?
