A suspension longer than 46 games would have given NY an extra year of control over Chapman (service time).

Sort of a win/win no matter what happened (unless the suspension would have been shorter).

With the Yanks rotation they need the bullpen to be great from the get go if they're going to make the playoffs.

The other NY team also made a nice move. The Mets picked up Bastardo and he's hell against lefties and a good set up guy for Familia.

Yeah, I don't think Betances would be upset about anything, but when you fuck with an established closer, it rarely ends well.

Miller is already on record saying he's fine with it and in this case I believe him. He already has his nice contract and showed last year that he can handle the 9th inning so he doesn't need to close to get that next deal. If it was the Mets where Familia is trying to put multiple years together and cement his status before free agency I could see an issue

It's usually about the money (as closers obviously get bigger contracts than non closer relievers), but since Miller already has a closer contract, I don't think it'll be an issue.
