The consistency with reffing in the league is certainly intriguing though. A very similar situation happened last night with the Pens. Phaneuf leveled Hornqvist (interference probably should've been called, but the hit itself wasn't predatory), Malkin went at Phaneuf, Geno given an extra penalty for initiating a scrap following a legal hit. Tonight, Malkin levels Girardi in a legal (albeit painful) fashion, is bull rushed by Staal when engaged with another guy, both off for 2 minutes. Sort of a confusing message.
