Why even bother with the kickoff at all? Just give them the ball at the 25. That's what we're moving towards anyway with all these pointless rules.

Well we all saw this coming to a degree. Starting the ball on the 25 though? What the fuck is that about? That doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

This is so dumb, all of these kickoff rules. The guys still barrel down the field at full speed and crash into each other. It protects one guy only, really, the return man.

Exactly!

I don't have the data, but it appears to me (for the games I've watched) that the injuries are much more common to the kickoff team than the returner. I attribute many of those injuries to the lack of talent and experience that we expect in college special teams. Further, by the time most defenders approach the kickoff returner, he is already moving to the sideline or following his blocks. At that point, he's little different than a running back in space. It can be easily argued that punt returners or recievers across the middle are much more vulnerable to the danger a kickoff returner is exposed. Again, those are just my observations of the games I see.

I'd really like to see a complete breakdown of the injuries: who and how. It just seems like a knee jerk reaction to a couple of high profile injuries, like the Rutgers kid.

They might as well put flag on players waist and play Flag-Football or touch football!
