This coming year, teams do not have to reach a salary cap floor INDIVIDUALLY, but instead COMBINED. Therefore, one team can stay below 90% as long as another team picks up the slack.

Here's the big one though:

Based on the new CBA, any salary cap not used up in the previous year can be used in the following year with the condition said team applies for it 2 weeks prior to the start of the following season.

In essence, because the Bengals were some $20 million below the cap in 2011, as long as they file a written notice to the league by February 28, they can spend an additional $20 million in 2012.

That said, the one question that remains is assuming we spend that extra $20 million in 2012, will we have to bring our salary cap back down to the league mandated cap in 2013? So in effect, will we have to shave that $20 million off our salary for 2013? I can't see any reason why we wouldn't.

Nonetheless, any owner who gives 2 craps about winning would use that extra cap space to front load big FA contracts with huge signing bonuses and lesser per year salaries. This way, we can maximize the amount we spend this year - which would be well above most of the league - and still not put us in a bind going into 2013.

The Bengals potentially have a huge advantage here.

Mike Brown, you're on the clock.

AT&T became the official sponsor of the NFL. That's where the idea of Rollover Millions came from. :D
