I wonder if this means the Kings will have to play Z-bo more? They've been playing and resting some vets pretty much every game for a while now. If the Bulls are intentionally not playing those 2 at all(even if they aren't great) I could see how that's looked at as tanking even if they could say they want to see what they have with their younger players instead. I'm sure other tank teams have been resting veteran players more during games and even giving them games off.

Just looking on ESPN it seems like he's playing most games, only 3 games with 0 min in 2018 and most of them playing 30+ min. Of course they did just sit him against Orlando and could rest him for games with the Bulls and Mavs that are coming up.

What can the league actually do about it?

Make you forfeit you draft pick or give you the last pick in the lottery....or a huge fine

Damn. I figured they could fine them. Had no idea about being able to make them forfeit a draft pick or making them pick last in the lottery.

I don't know if they actually can. Just a possible suggestion. I have to think if they're really serious about cutting out tanking then they would do more than a huge fine to get their point across

Maybe Cuban's plan was to take the fine for admitting it as a distraction so he wouldn't lose that early 1st. He paid that fine with the change in his wallet and still gets the high draft pick.

Genius? :noidea:

Lol. The way you posted it, I thought you knew if there was a rule about it.

I agree that they'd need to do more than just fine them. Becoming a contender would definitely offset any fine the league could levy.

They also need to have a set rule in place in terms of what is consider tanking when it comes to resting players. Once they clarify that then it should be a 2 step process. You get your warning and if you violate it again then you have to face the penalties.

Or they can just get rid of the whole lottery process

Yeah, defining it when it comes to resting players would be tough. Teams would then just start coming up with minor injuries for guys. "So and so is out tonight because of a minor eyebrow strain. He should be fine within a week."

Tanking is always going to be a thing. I can't really think of anything the league can do that teams won't figure out a way to beat.

Just go worst to first and accept that teams are going to tank. Or like Dan Patrick suggests, let them do it, but they have to be up front and cut ticket, parking and concession prices. They could add tlance's idea of making it like the repeater tax where the cuts have to be more drastic each subsequent year that they tank.

Tanking is so bad, the other night Bulls were playing 5 on 4 against the Mavs and still didn't score. Won the game though.

NBA is such a solid product right now :pound:

Memphis has been trotting out a line ups of all undrafted guys, did they not get a warning?

Dan Patrick made a pretty good point about this. He said he thinks the NBA is headed down a dangerous road with this.

He said that the Bulls announced that they were going to play the young guys to see what they've got.

If a team is going with it's veterans earlier in the season trying to win, it doesn't work out and they end up falling out playoff contention...

What's wrong with playing the young guys the rest of the way to see what they can do and what you have? It's not like those players are going to go out and try to lose.

Maybe what got them on the league's radar was that they apparently announced it on the same day that Cuban was fined $600k.

If you're going to warn the Bulls you should warn every team. Not a fan of tanking, myself, but nothing wrong with showcasing your young talent.
