Looks like we kinda screwed Creighton over to get this:
Bringing the Bulls to Lincoln was years in making
Bringing the Bulls to Lincoln was years in making
Doug McDermott had been a member of the Chicago Bulls for all of, oh, two days when Steve Schanwald received a phone call from Greg McDermott, Doug’s father and head coach at Creighton.
Schanwald, the longtime executive vice president of business operations for Chicago’s NBA team, remembers the elder McDermott “requesting” the Bulls play a preseason game in Omaha.
CenturyLink Center Omaha had previously hosted NBA exhibition games, was relatively close to Chicago and would fill every seat for Doug McDermott’s return to the same court on which he achieved All-American status.
“I had the unfortunate duty of telling him that I was sorry,” Schanwald said, “but we had already made a commitment to Lincoln.”
