Yeah, 500 million is way to much for an expansion team. You're going to get a lot more deserving cities than Las Vegas not being able to come up with astronomical amount.

The most absurd thing about the $500M to me is that, if you use that same $500 as the value of the franchise, it would - according to Forbes - make a team in Las Vegas tied for the 11th most valuable franchise in the league. More valuable than 4 of the Canadian franchises even.

I know that $500M would be the actual value of the franchise because a lot of that would be spent on legal stuff and what-not, but it shows just how much that actually is relative to the value of an NHL team other than (in no particular order) Original 6, Vancouver, Philly, Pitts, and LA.

They aren't going to get $500 million. It will take any owner in any potential expansion market at least a decade to recoup that kind of money, and that's if everything goes perfect. These guys aren't dumb.

You think the $500M number they're throwing around is just to scare off parties that might not be serious?

/Also realized I missed a critical 'not' in my initial post and I'm past the edit time. Second paragraph should say "I know that $500M would not be the actual value..."

Possible, that or Bettman is being bullied by the current owners and has no choice but to chase that amount unrealistic as it may be.

In this phase, we will be providing the League with additional application fee of $20 million, $5 million of which is non-refundable. We will also be submitting our choice for franchise name - The Pit Bosses and our choice for goal scoring horn - slot machine jackpot.
I'm liking it more and more!

Both Quebec City and Las Vegas have formally entered the third and last phase of the expansion application process:

Vegas Wants Hockey @LVWantsHockey
We've officially been invited to participate in Phase 3 of the application process! #OneStepCloser from #VegasWantsHockey to #VegasIsHockey

Where would an NHL team play though? The T & M (Thomas & Mack) already has UNLV hoops & the National Rodeo Finals (which starts I think in the beginning of December). Would they be able to play their home games @ the MGM? I have heard stories about a 40,000 seat multi-sport arena possibly being built, although until that happens not sure where an NHL team would play.

Dammit I miss living in Vegas!

Here's a virtual tour of the new arena (if they stay on pace, slated to be completed in 2016)

I was in vegas on the weekend and i didnt even realize that what i saw when i was there was the new arena (queue the drunk jokes) ... it doesnt look big at all (thats what she said) ... probably because the huge casino resorts close by to it dwarf it
