We are deeply saddened by the loss of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, an extraordinary individual whose memory we have honored in numerous ways in recent weeks. The Baseball family has sadly lost a number of people this year - including Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, Frank Cashen, and former All-Stars Jerry Coleman, Jim Fregosi and Don Zimmer - and did not want to slight anyone by singling out one individual.

Since when has THAT ever been a concern of MLB?

I read it also and it came across to me like someone said " we better think of something quick , let's try this and see if anyone buys it". I doubt many are

The excuse is pathetic. They should have acknowledged their mistake and apologized. This statement came from some NY PR firm. :rolleyes2:

I read the politically correct response from MLB, :L

I understand the whole Jeter celebration, but there is still an obligation to former players and coaches, I think Jeter wouldn't of minded a mention about Zimmer as well...

You didn't have to refer to Gwynn directly, MLB, or anyone else. Just my two cents though on the topic.

And obviously they agreed. Jeter was mentioned 11,234,127 times but never a hint of Tony Gwynn or Don Zimmer (65 years in MLB).

I still have a difficult time wrapping my head around the fact that T.G. is no longer with us. I not only had the opportunity to seem him play on a road trip to the Murph back in the 80's but also met him once at a memorabilia show in Philly. He was a class act all around and a thrill to watch hit.
