This is not a good look. By this graph, teams with losing records would have qualified for the playoffs four separate times and then teams that went 81-81 an additional three times since 2001.

Wow, if you count the ties the Blue Jays would have been in the playoffs 7 more times, in addition to the one time they actually made it.

As the data concludes....It doesn't matter the Pirates still suck.

I was going to say, doesn't appear it would have helped my Spoyals so I say fuck it.

Current system is fine. Just need minor tweaking IMO.

Change WC game to best of 3 and LDS to best of 7

I actually like the playoff as is...

this proposal looks like just a proposal... I will be shocked if it gets any legs... there is no way the #1 team would want a bye... Having a week off from baseball is going to mess up with everything... baseball is a sport where too much rest is a bad thing...

I don't mind the expanded playoffs. It's the pick your opponent proposal that I don't like.

This is how it 'could be done' I guess. Not necessarily a proponent for it. 14 playoff teams seems like a lot. I remember a time in which only 4 teams qualified...and now it's potentially 14?

I think this new idea is terrible. I think the reason there doing this is cuz they are hoping a change will bring more people to watch this game. But at the end of the day baseball takes too long for the kid these days and is too slow with not a lot of action. So at the end of the day I think this will do the opposite of what they were trying to do and it will turn fans off and they will stop watching and going to the games. But let’s see maybe it will turn out that it works out and every I will like it but I highly doubt it

I hope that the MLB playoffs doesn't get expanded further. MLB is the last of the major American sports where the championship is decided by a reasonable playoff system. I guess the NFL is okay because it gives the top teams a bye week. The number of teams that make the NBA and NHL playoffs is completely ridiculous.

I mean, why can't they just add a couple games like bks said, try that first. Make a change and see how it works, not completely overhaul the whole process.

This idea better be squashed right away. The last thing we want is to have a team with a losing regular season record become World Series champions. It would be complete garbage.

Yea, the regular season is a marathon... right... the more teams you let in the playoffs the less important the regular season is...

If the attention is to get more fans to watch, this is not how... this will get less, because the regular season means less...

the playoff system as is pretty perfect... Even the 1 game PLAY-IN game...

Yea in baseball if you get in you have a shot. Unlike the NFL or NBA where its usually a group of roughly 5 teams with with a shot. So there would be no reason the last team couldnt make a run. We see it with Wild Card teams all the time.

This idea sucks. They don't need to increase the number of teams in the playoffs. The regular season needs to matter. You start letting 1/2 league in and it devalues the regular season.

This would be shorter and sweeter. Best-of-3 in the "1st round", with all 3 games played at the higher seed's home field. Games would be played consecutively to reduce the rust factor of the #1 seeds. #1 seeds would play the lowest seed that advances. People say hell no to the playoff expansion, which I respect. I'm good with it either way. It would still be exciting coming down the stretch with teams attempting to play their way into the 6/7 seeds.

I agree. It could also devalue and cheapen championships. It would be seriously wrong for a team to barely have a winning record (or possibly even a losing record) and then go on to win the World Series.

A team that wins over 100 games shouldn't have to beat a .500 team in a postseason series because they've already proved that they're the better team, but this kind of matchup could happen quite often under this ridiculous idea to expand the postseason.
